Stockings and Suspenders
Suspender belts have been used to hold up stockings for centuries. I'm sure they must have been invented by a
man simply because they are so uncomfortable. What is a suspender belt?
The thing that suspender belts or garter belts share is discomfort to the wearer.
A suspender or garter belt is a band of cloth of varying and adjustable dimensions that fits around a women's
hips and has four strips of cloth or elastic suspending or hanging down to go along the front and back of a woman's
leg.
Attached to the end of each one of these suspenders, is a fine steel 'mouth' clip with one side having a raised
button that is supposed to be inserted into the inside of the stocking where the mouth of the clip then comes down
and grips the button inside the stocking.
Sounds confusing? Not really if you imagine a raised button on the end of a thin sturdy piece of material
hanging from a join where the other end of the join is wrapped around a piece of fine rounded steel shaped like a
crocodile's snout.
This snout then is the piece that grips around the button located inside the cloth of the stocking. If you have
ever seen a man's braces, they make use of suspenders too for holding up the man's trousers. From this archaic
suspension method then hangs the woman's stockings.
It may look sexy but to the wearer, it represents great discomfort if worn over a period of time. Particularly
if the wearer has been sitting then standing a lot. The suspender belt moves and this moves the suspenders
themselves away from the centre of the leg. The back suspenders move to the side and the front suspenders move
around too screwing the stockings around the womans legs.
Stockings and Suspender or garter belts can be made to look very feminine, pretty and sexy with delicate and
padded motifs and pretty colours decorating the belt and suspenders. Prettiness does not make them comfortable
though, so no matter how pretty the suspender belt and stockings are, it doesn't make them easier to
wear.
